Payneham v Modbury

Premier Two North Grand Final

Payneham v Modbury

After a stellar season Minor Premiers Modbury failed to fire in the Premier Two North Grand Final at Ascot Park on Sunday going down 84-61 to a Payneham side which began well and were never headed.

Gawler Bowling Club has much to thank the Panthers for as the win ensures another season in Premier One for our most northern club. Payneham already has a side in the elite competition and therefore could not be promoted.

Going into the Grand Final on a wet and miserable day Modbury looked the goods but ended the day with only one rink win. Craig Mills, always competitive skipped his rink to a 23-13 win over Robin McKnight but he would have been disappointed in what was happening around him.

Former State Pairs champion Bernie Mullins for Payneham got out of the blocks early and with the players in his rink all performing well recorded an emphatic 27-12 win over Rhys Taylor. This was the best performance on a day when the fours of John Radloff and the experienced Chris Rule also defeated quality opposition.

The result will see the Modbury Club hit the track hard in the off season as the playing group come to terms with what was a disappointing display.

Payneham 84 Modbury 61

Radloff 24 Wise 12

McKnight 13 Mills 23

Mullins 27 Taylor 12

Rule 20 Nicholls 14
