Metro North win Prestige Medley

Last bowl heroics from Salisbury's Brett Davis has guided Metro North to take out the 2009 Prestige Medley.

WithMetro North only needing a rink against Eastern to qualify for thefinal and Metro East dominating Section B, the final looked to be ahotly contested affair and it didn't disappoint.

ThePairs contest saw Don Mackereth and Gary Meekcoms pick up a late six toclinch a nine shot win over Gary Davies and Gary Thompson while East'sBernie Manser, Gary Miles and Brian Starr leveled the ledger with avictory over Brydson, Croser and Fyfe.

Withtwo ends remaining in the fours, Metro North held a four shot advantagebut a two from Luke Pietersma on the 14th end made things veryinteresting going into the last. The tension was growing untilPayneham's Wayne Prosser calmly drew two shots to level the scoresoverall with only the Skipper's remaining.

Withthe two orange bowls clearly visible from the mat, Davis had no optionbut to drive for the bowls. With his drive astray, Pietersma went forcover. With his final bowl, Davis let rip and took out both bowls. Notto be outdone by his ex clubmate, Pietersma's sceanrio was set. Trailthe white a foot, get three shots and win for Metro East. His weightwas perfect for the shot, however just narrow and Metro Northcelebrated an amazing win.
