GREEN'S UPDATE
Thanks to all the volunteers who put in two solid days just before Christmas to help Steve renovate all three of the Panthers green's. That is by far a huge effort and many thanks go out to them.
If you have been past the club in the past few days you will have noticed how great all the greens look. The much needed renovations will set them up for the remainder of the season and beyond. Please understand that there will be restrictions on the number of rinks available for the next week or so. This will enable the Turf to properly rest and recooperate before we swing back into full time bowls.

HENSELITE CUP
The South Australian Lawn Bowlers League in conjunction with BowlsSA have announced the Draw for the Henselite Cup starting on friday night Jan 9th 2009. The Panthers have a bye in the first round and start their campaign on Friday Jan 16th at Gawler.
This is a very exciting format and with $8,000 in prize money at stake courtesy of Henselite it will be a very sought after trophy. Teams consist of 10 players with a Fours { 2 Bowl}, Triples { 2 Bowl}, Pairs {2-2-2-2} and a Singles { 25 up} being played. 26 Clubs have nominated and they are split into a North and South zone.
All North Clubs will play each round at ONE VENUE and the same for the South zone. This will give spectators a great opportunity to see some top bowls and bowlers playing from a variety of clubs at one time. The Henselite Cup also allows for a "Guest" player to be added to a team. So you could see some Australian Players fronting up for a few games.
Please make an effort to come out and support the Panthers not just our ONE HOME GAME ON the 6th FEB but all the Panthers games!
Finals will be played at ADELAIDE Bowls Club at the conclusion of the Minor Round. This promises to be an exciting format and with HENSELITE commited to sponsoring this event for the next 3 years it can only go from strength to strength.December 6th 2008
GREEN'S CLOSURE
Please be advised that the greens will be closed for some much needed rest and maintenance over the Christmas and New Year break. Notices will be posted on the board at the club. Please ensure that you respect the wishes of the Greenkeeper and stay off the greens that are closed. Our greens are our future!

WORLD CHAMPION @ PAYNEHAMA great turnout of over 75 people attended the Panthers Club on Friday 14th November to hear Leif Selby talk.
From growing up in Bankstown and his introduction to bowls at school to his fantastic feat of winning the World championship. The assembled crowd was kept entertained with his insights into his career. A roar of laughter was heard when he admitted to putting down a wrong bias in his semi final game of the world Championships, he was holding shot and decided that he needed to "lightnen the moment" so went on to the mat and calmly put down the wrong bias! worked a treat and he then had the crowd well on his side. Lief also raffled off some Australian Bowls Squad Hats and a game of Heads & Tails was played with the prize a couple of Australian Jackets!
A great lunch was also enjoyed by everyone and thanks must go to
The Panthers Den chef Traci for another great meal!
Leif was the Panthers guest at the Premier 1 clash against Adelaide on Friday night. He gave an inspirational speach to the Panthers before the game. It must have worked as the supporters were treated to some of the best bowls played and the Panthers went away with a great win.Leif presented a clinic on Saturday morning that was open to all bowlers. A group of over 30 attented including current State Representives. Leif set out some drills and talked through how he goes about practice.
Thanks go to Steve Green who was an integral part of bringing Leif to Payneham.
Thanks also go to Wayne Prosser, Brian Ballard and the Board of Payneham Bowls Club for their foresight in holding the luncheon and also to the members who supported the event.

The PANTHERS make a splash of colour!
Just in time for the 1st Pennant game of the season our NEW GREEN COLOURED PANTS have arrived. Along with the Yellow mats and Kitties that arrived in mid November, we are going to make a big visual impact on the greens this summer!
Just note the ring in player in the centre of the back row....... anyone reckon we may be able to sign him up? According to rumors he can bowl just a bit!

October 7th 2008Payneham just miss out........
Six of Payneham’s top players took part in the Grange Fives Tournament on Sat/Sun 4th & 5th October 2008. In glorious Sunshine the team of Adam Mullins, Simon Dorr, Steve Green, Chris Rule and Wayne Prosser started the Tournament with a loss, however this was their only loss of the day and they eventually finished top for the first day with 21 points. The format was pairs/triples and single/fours.
Day two saw a change of personnel, Adam Mullins was unavailable and Gary Miles filled in adequately. Again the first game saw loss of points, but this time only two, when one team had a draw.
The other games that day saw wins over Marion and West Lakes and a close loss to Somerton in the fours by one shot.
The highlight of the competition was the form of Simon Dorr, Simon played all the singles games, winning them all and playing the best bowls I have ever seen by a Payneham player in my 15 years at the Club. Simon was not in a losing team all weekend and I can only applaud him for his play, absolutely Brilliant.

Simon in Action at Grange.

Gary Miles, Simon Dorr, Steve Green, Chris Rule, Wayne Prosser.
(Missing - Adam Mullins.Well done to all the guys for finishing second, two points behind Grange, but with a far superior ‘shots up” total than any other team.
On this form we can look forward to a promising season in Premier One.
